Is PC2Sonos free?
Yes, completely. There's no paid tier, trial or license key. An optional pay-what-you-want donation link helps keep it going.
Why do my PC speakers and Sonos echo?
Sonos plays one to two seconds behind the source so a group of speakers stays in sync. That can't be turned off. PC2Sonos delays your PC speakers by the same amount so you only hear one sound. Press Auto on the dashboard to measure it.
Does it use my microphone?
Not on Windows. It reads the audio by loopback, which Windows doesn't treat as microphone access, and the mic indicator stays off. On a Mac the indicator stays on, because macOS counts reading any virtual audio device as microphone use. It still only carries your Mac's own audio.
Does it need a Sonos account or the Sonos app?
No. It talks to your speakers directly on your home network.
My Sonos speakers are on a separate network or IoT VLAN. Can it find them?
Yes. Type one speaker's IP address under "Speakers not showing up?" on the dashboard, and PC2Sonos reaches it directly and finds the rest from it.
Does it send anything to the internet?
Only one check per launch for a newer version, to GitHub. There's no account and no telemetry. Audio goes straight from your computer to your speakers.
Windows says it protected my PC. Is the installer safe?
The installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen warns about it. Click More info, then Run anyway. The source code is public on GitHub.
Can I stream only one app?
On Windows 10 21H2 or newer, yes: tick the apps you want under Audio source. The rest of your sound stays on your PC. This isn't available on Mac yet.
How do I uninstall it?
On Windows, from Settings > Apps. On a Mac, quit it from the menu bar and move it to the Trash.
Is this made by Sonos?
No. PC2Sonos is an independent, open-source project and isn't affiliated with Sonos, Inc.
